WASHINGTON (AP) — The Biden administration has chosen a location for a new FBI headquarters in Maryland, people familiar with the selection said Wednesday as the suburban Washington location was selected over nearby Virginia following a sharp competition between the two states. Democratic Maryland Gov. Wes Moore argued in recent months that building it there would be fast and save taxpayers $1 billion. He said a headquarters in the majority-Black Prince George’s County would meet equity goals raised by President Joe Biden. In recent months, the two other finalists were Springfield, Virginia, and Landover, Maryland.

(AP) — Washington Commanders part-owner Magic Johnson criticized coach Ron Rivera's team for playing with “no intensity or fire" in a 40-20 loss Thursday night to the Chicago Bears, a club that hadn’t won a game in nearly a full year. By the time Sam Howell led the hosts to their initial first down, nearly 2 1/2 minutes into the second quarter, Chicago (1-4) was already ahead 17-0. At halftime, the tally was 27-3, and the Bears had outgained the Commanders 307-84 in total yards. Afterward, the Commanders forced the Bears to punt for the first time all evening. Later, with a chance to cut the deficit to seven with under 5 1/2 minutes left, Slye missed a 46-yard attempt.

A general view of fans in front of the Washington Commanders logo during the first half of the game between the Washington Commanders and the Philadelphia Eagles at FedExField on September 25, 2022 in Landover, Maryland. The NFL's Washington Commanders entered into a deal to be sold to a consortium led by private-equity financier and professional sports team owner Josh Harris, the sides announced Friday. "League staff and the finance committee will review details of the proposed Washington transaction," the NFL said. The deal comes months after team owner Dan Snyder hired investment bankers to explore a sale, CNBC previously reported. Snyder wasn't being forced to sell the team despite mounting pressure among other owners to have him removed as owner.
Financial terms of the deal, which is subject to league approval, were not disclosed though reports in April said the agreement was for an NFL-record price of $6.05 billion. "We are very pleased to have reached an agreement for the sale of the Commanders franchise with Josh Harris, an area native, and his impressive group of partners," Commanders co-owners Dan and Tanya Snyder said in a news release. "We look forward to the prompt completion of this transaction and to rooting for Josh and the team in the coming years." "We look forward to the formal approval of our ownership by the NFL in the months ahead and to having the honor to serve as responsible and accountable stewards of the Commanders franchise moving forward." In 2021 the NFL fined the Commanders $10 million after an independent counsel review found the workplace demonstrated "a general lack of respect" towards women.

Mandatory Credit: Geoff Burke-USA TODAY SportsApril 13 (Reuters) - Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder has reached an agreement in principle to sell the National Football League (NFL) team to a group led by the co-owner of the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers, Josh Harris, according to a Sportico report on Thursday. The Commanders, NFL and a spokesman at Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment (HBSE), where Harris serves as managing general partner, all declined to comment. In 2021 the NFL fined the Commanders $10 million after an independent counsel review found the workplace demonstrated "a general lack of respect" toward women. The committee's final report said sexual harassment, bullying, and other toxic conduct pervaded the team's workplace, perpetuated by a culture of fear instilled by Snyder.
A detailed view of the new Washington Commanders uniforms following the announcement of the Washington Football Team's name change to the Washington Commanders at FedExField on February 02, 2022 in Landover, Maryland. The NFL's Washington Commanders will pay $625,000 to settle allegations brought by the Washington, D.C., attorney general that the organization failed to return fans' ticket deposits, the AG's office announced Monday. Former D.C. Attorney General Karl Racine sued the Commanders in November, alleging the team cheated residents out of their security deposits collected from season ticket holders and used the money for its own purposes. Racine alleged the Commanders sold premium seating tickets to D.C. fans since 1996, which sometimes required a security deposit. The Commanders have been hit with several claims of misconduct from inside the team's front office in recent years.
The J. Edgar Hoover Building, headquarters of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, in Washington, D.C. , whose replacement location is to be chosen soon. WASHINGTON—After more than a decade of delay and escalating political volleys across the Potomac River in recent months, the agency that manages the federal government’s real estate is close to picking the location of a new Federal Bureau of Investigation headquarters campus in the capital’s suburbs. The decision to replace the deteriorating J. Edgar Hoover Building in downtown Washington has set off a heated competition between elected officials representing Virginia and Maryland, the two states vying to secure the future site to house at least 7,500 bureau employees and the bureau’s leadership, along with the economic development that will come with it. Maryland’s two potential sites are in Greenbelt and Landover, while Virginia’s is in Springfield.

It is the second lawsuit brought forth by D.C. Attorney General Karl Racine in the past week. In Thursday's filing, Racine alleged that since 1996, the Commanders sold premium seating tickets to D.C. fans, some of which required a security deposit. "In 2014, as part of a comprehensive review, Team management was instructed to send notices to over 1,400 customers with deposits and return all security deposits requested." Although the Commanders had returned some of the money to ticket holders, they still held nearly $200,000 in unreturned security deposits as of March 2022, he added. The lawsuit also alleges the Commanders forfeited thousands of dollars from D.C. residents' security deposits and converted the funds into revenue for the team.
The Washington, D.C., attorney general filed suit on Thursday against the Washington Commanders, accusing the troubled NFL franchise of perpetuating "a toxic culture of sexual harassment." Representatives for Snyder, the Commanders, Goodell and the NFL could not immediately be reached by NBC News for comment. The lawsuit cited language commonly used in consumer protection claims, accusing the defendants lying to Washington D.C. residents in order to protect their business. Team co-owner Dan Snyder speaks during a press conference on Feb. 2, 2022 in Landover, Md. That’s what this lawsuit is about: standing up for DC residents who were deceived and misled.
The attorney general of Washington, D.C., on Thursday sued the Commanders and owner Dan Snyder, as well as the NFL and Commissioner Roger Goodell, for allegedly deceiving D.C. residents about the team's alleged toxic culture for its own financial gain. "The Commanders and the NFL secretly entered into an agreement about the investigation that the public didn't know about," Racine said, pointing to evidence gathered by his office. The attorney general is also seeking a court order that would release the findings from the 10-month investigation into the Commanders' workplace culture. Shortly after the House Oversight Committee sent a letter to the Federal Trade Commission, the Virginia attorney general and Racine opened up investigations into the team, too. Amazon founder and multibillionaire Jeff Bezos and rapper and music industry giant Jay-Z are reportedly interested in bidding on the team.

Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder has hired Bank of America to explore "potential transactions," the team said Wednesday. The NFL team hired the bank to help facilitate a potential sale, according to a person familiar with the matter. Snyder isn't being forced to sell the team despite mounting pressure to potentially remove him as an NFL owner, the person said. Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay said at last month's NFL owners' meeting that there was "merit to remove" Snyder as owner of the Commanders. After Irsay's comments, the Commanders released a statement saying Snyder wouldn't sell the team.
